Follow These Diet Rules if You Have Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a one of the prime cause of blindness among adults and old age people. This eye ailment builds undue pressure in the eye resulting in distortion of the eyeball shape. This also damages the eye lenses which can further be the cause of blindness.

While it is true that eating the right kind of foods may help in decreasing the risk factor of glaucoma and maintain healthy eyesight. In India, conventional and laser Glaucoma surgery cost starts from somewhere around Rs. 20,000 to 30,000 depending on the hospital.


Things to eat if you Have Glaucoma:

·         Appropriate intake of foods that are rich in vitamin A reduces the risk of glaucoma. These foods may include milk, liver, cheese, and butter. Interestingly, there was no evidence that a diet rich in dietary fats has any role in the promotion of glaucoma.

·         Leafy green vegetables and yellow colored foods are well known for their protective advantages. According to some survey, red wine is also recommended by doctors for its antioxidant properties.

·         As per the healthcare professional, one should avoid excessive intake of salt in patients who are already impacted by glaucoma. Also stay away from high calorie diets.

·         Fish and buts are recommended for having rich in Omega 3. Liquids should be taken in a small amount throughout the day rather than one big portion at the single go. Foods like Potatoes, Rice, Bread, Pasta, Sugars should be avoided to stay away from.

·         Dark chocolate and green tea are also suggested for their health benefits. At the same time, caffeine, aerated beverages are a complete No-No.

·         Foods like Citrus fruits, Berries, Tomatoes, Peppers, Cabbage, Broccoli and Cauliflower are rich in Vitamin C. Vegetable oils, especially wheat germ oil is rich in vitamin E. Wheat, cereal grains, Green leafy vegetables, Egg yolk, Milk, Butter, Meat and Nuts are also containing Vitamin E.


·         Other than supplements, one should also consume Egg yolks, Whole milk, Carrots and Sweet potato to fulfill the deficiency of Vitamin A.
