How to prepare for LASIK/SMILE Surgery

LASIK surgery is a safe and effective technique to treat vision correction related problems. People with some visual problems like myopia also known as near-sightedness may get benefit by opting for Lasik eye surgery. In this procedure, the patient’s eye checkups are done to determine the power and other specifications of the lenses. Through laser, Doctors reshape the patient’s cornea for better focus.

SMILE is also similar to Lasik surgery which is used to treat nearsightedness and far-sightedness. Primarily, this procedure is only used for myopia (nearsightedness). Gradually some more research and hard work were put into it to equip with more advanced surgery to treat vision problems.  During a SMILE procedure, small corneal lenticule id cut which is a defined lens-shaped disc within the cornea and then it is removed using a very small hole incision.

The advantage of SMILE laser eye surgery start with the small cut required to perform the procedure. SMILE requires minimal changes to the cornea, which is significantly helpful to reduce recovery times. The risk of infection or healing complications is also less due to its minimal invasion procedure.

One of my friends is willing to go for LASIK or SMILE surgery in Delhi, wherein some highly experienced surgeons are performing the procedure. Deciding to go for a Lasik or SMILE surgery for Vision Correction is not an easy decision. It is normal to have doubts in mind thinking about the operations and the risks linked with it. This would require some research and preparation. It is necessary to make your own checklist before you proceed to the surgery:

Find a good Doctor: For this you can talk to some of the people who have gone through LASIK or SMILE surgery in Delhi. Take their opinions and understand their experience. You can also search the internet for choosing a right clinic with experienced doctors.

Thorough Eye-checkups: While consulting an optometrist or ophthalmologist, you will be recommended for a comprehensive eye tests. Clear all your doubts before going ahead with the surgery including the recovery time, the precautions that need to be taken, the cost and other concerns, if any. Feel free to talk to your surgeon and clarify.

Switch to spectacles: If you have been using contact lenses, it is suggested that you discontinue them before at least a week or 10 days before the scheduled date of surgery. This will help in maintaining the accuracy of your eye and cornea specification during the tests.

Take care: Post the surgery, your vision might be blurry for 2-3 days. You will be recommended several eye drops and medications which will help you in healing faster. Do as your doctor say.
